As an international student, one of the main reasons shaping my decision to attend university in the UK was the multitude of doors I have the chance to open. Not only do I have the possibility to academically enrich myself, but also the practical environment in which to hone key, transferrable skills for the career I am wishing to further pursue. For instance, along with my six-member team, as part of our first year of study we are requested to plan and deliver a sport-related event. In other words, we are given the opportunity to take entire responsibility for creating an event from cellar to rafter.

In this regard, we are organising, for students, an Inflatable Football Tournament for charity which will be held at Sugden Sport Centre, on Friday 6th March 2015, from 12PM to 3PM. The aim of the competition is to raise money for Kick4Life, a charity and social enterprise that is engaging in international projects helping to support the people from Lesotho infected with the HIV virus. The Southern African country is ranked 2nd in terms of the inhabitants suffering from this infection, with one in four people being diagnosed with HIV.

From one perspective, the university is investing in us, its students. Yet, from another angle, we are striving to give back as much as we can to the community as a whole. We do believe that each human should be seen equal and be entitled to the same rights and privileges to enjoy a healthy, happy existence. Nonetheless, there are people whose hopes to pursue their lives, dreams and goals are sadly being cut short.

So, MMU, let’s bring together our positive feelings and intentions! Let’s also have fun, network, socialise and play an entertaining variant of football for this cause. Gather your team of three males or females, contribute with £4 to the charity and book your place either by emailing kick4life.football@gmail.com or by visiting our Facebook Page MMU – Inflatable Football.
