Alt-rock band Gang of Youths are making their way from down under for some new dates, which they have named their “Record Store Tour”. Their newest album angel in realtime., was released on the 25th of February and marks five years since their first full-length release, Go Farther In Lightness.
Acting as the exploration of grief felt by Dave Le’aupepe over the passing of his father angel in realtime., is no less ambitious than their previous efforts. Taking inspiration from Le’aupepe’s Polynesian heritage and using backing harmonies of the Auckland Gospel Choir, it takes the band into previously uncharted waters with well-placed confidence. Both Radio 1 and Radio X have supported their latest releases, with the latter nominating ‘the angel of 8th ave.’ for their Record of the Year, and they were also able to perform on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’.
On the album, the lead vocalist has said, “I wanted to reflect on how I became dependent on grief for solace and inspiration. The cycle from numbness to acceptance to yearning plays a role in my approach to grieving my dad’s death. As a result, most of the time, I feel a bit futile as a person.”

The band will put on a show on Friday 25th of February at The Fighting Cocks, Kingston, followed by a signing only session at HMV in Manchester on February 28th. Then they will spend their evening at Crash Records in Leeds for both a signing and unplugged acoustic performance. The final date is an acoustic gig and signing at London’s Rough Trade East on Tuesday, March 1st.
In addition to these three new dates, the band has previously announced a full U.K and European tour for this month. They will be taking their latest release all over the country and will be stopping off at one of Manchester’s most-loved venues, Albert Hall.
