Letter from our Creative Editors: We’re open for submissions!

Dear Creators,

This month we invite you to to send us your fairytales, myths, and legends. Whether they are original, retold, fractured or whole, we want to read them. Whether they are set in the past, the future, or the present, we want to be immersed in your world.

You might find inspiration from Margot Lanagan’s Tender Morsels, or The Brides of Rollrock Island, retellings of the selkie myth and the fable of ‘Rose Red and Snow White’. Or perhaps you prefer ancient myths of gods and monsters, in which case you might be inspired by Margaret Atwood’s collection of poetry, Morning in the Burned House, which features Greek, and Egyptian myths. Both writers and artists alike may like to look towards fashion photographer Tim Walker’s work for inspiration or take a look at Valentine Cameron Prinsep’s famous Cinderella, which is held at the Manchester Art Gallery.

It doesn’t matter if your work is heavily reliant on the myth or legend or if it only mentions it briefly, send it in. We can’t wait to read it.

We are accepting works of prose, poetry, flash fiction and art on the theme of ‘fairytales’. All submissions should be a maximum of 1,500 words. To send us your submission, please email a word document or PDF to aah.creativeteam@gmail.com with the subject line ‘Creative Submission’.

The closing date for submissions is 30th June.

Keep on creating,

Ryann Overbay on behalf of
