Academy Award winning director, Danny Boyle is set to direct a six-part dramatic miniseries about punk icons, the Sex Pistols – to be titled Pistol – adapted from guitarist Steve Jones’s 2016 memoir, ‘Lonely Boy’.
Manchester native, Boyle, described the Sex Pistols’ emergence in the 1970s as a defining moment in British society and culture. “Imagine breaking into the world of The Crown and Downton Abbey with your mates and screaming your songs and your fury at all they represent,” said Boyle. “It is the detonation point for British street culture where ordinary young people had the stage and vented their fury and their fashion, and everyone had to watch and listen and everyone feared them or followed them.”
Pistol’s cast will feature Toby Wallace of Babyteeth, playing the series’ focal character Steve Jones. Wallace is joined by the likes of Anson Boon, who will play the ever-divisive John Lydon. Louis Partridge will portray Sid Vicious, whilst Paul Cook and Glen Matlock play Jacob Slater and Fabien Frankel. The series will also feature Game of Thrones’ star, Maisie Williams, depicting punk icon, Jordan – who helped establish punk as a fashion aesthetic.
Pistol will appear on American network FX. Production is due to start on 7 March.
