Who said punk is dead? People have been repeating the mantra since 1978, but maybe it never died. Or, maybe it did and was reincarnated through an interstellar wormhole in the form of Hello Cosmos and their trippy new single ‘Frequency Fields’.
As part of the new seven-track EP Run For President which touched down earlier this month via Cosmic Glue Records, Hello Cosmos have produced something which you can simultaneously muse on via progressive lyrical commentary, vigorously bob your head to, and perhaps even fly through space to.
With sonic similarities to such current bands as Pond and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and psychedelic legends Hawkwind, Hello Cosmos ride between the astral planes of 60s psychedelia, post-punk and indie-dance. They’ve also done a ton of collaborations too for good measure.
BBC6 Music’s Chris Hawkins summarises their sound pretty succinctly: “The Fall meet LCD Soundsystem in a dystopian back alley.”
The experimental collaborative project was launched by Ben Robson, the founder of UK music festivals Blue Dot and Kendall Calling, both of which Hello Cosmos will be playing at.

BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders also heaped on the praise: “The Next Wave is like my hottest record in the world, but for bands, and tonight it’s Hello Cosmos… From the title through to the sound and the lyrics there’s a definite rally cry here…”
