Manchester Met alumni poet Mike Garry takes to the stage, welcoming Manchester Met students to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities as part of The Home Project.

The Home Project celebratory social took place today featuring poet Mike Garry performing live.

Garry performed a set alongside Cassia String Quartet, which included original poetry discussing powerful local themes, Manchester’s history and his own personal experiences of Manchester and his time studying.

The celebratory event was part of Manchester Met’s The Home Project, a new series of events designed to encourage new students to explore their city of study and discover new venues, people, ideas and resources.

The events, grouped into four strands –‘Radical Manchester’, ‘Cottonopolis to the Northern Quarter’, ‘Is Manchester a Northern Powerhouse?’ and ‘International City’, each offered a valuable insight into the city, its past, present and future.

Students were invited to choose one of these strands and then embark on an exploration of Manchester through a series of powerful guest speaker events, talks and visits at key cultural venues taking place throughout the week.

Manchester Met’s Make a Difference Officer Lisa Bach said,

“The Home Project is a brilliant initiative from Faculty of Arts and Humanities that encourages students to engage with the city and to use it as a resource in their studies.

“Manchester is a city thriving with activities and rich with history and culture and the talks and events hosted this week have really showcased the ethos of the university, where we promote diversity and global citizenship in our students so they truly leave us as world class professionals.”
