The ninth edition of the ICC (International Cricket Council) Men’s T20 World Cup is taking place in the USA and West Indies throughout June. A total of 20 teams are set to participate in the World Cup final which is scheduled on Wednesday 26th June.
The 20 teams are separated into four groups of five teams. The top two teams from each group will then face each other in the Super 8 stage of the league. Finally, the top four teams will participate in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Here are squads announced so far:
England
Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley and Mark Wood.
After two years, the Barbados born English Pacer Jofra Archer makes a comeback to white-ball cricket. Meanwhile, the test skipper Ben Stokes has ruled himself out of the tournament to keep fit for the upcoming 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle.
India
Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj. Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.
The Indian cricketing fans are disappointed by the exclusion of highly rated Rinku Singh, who is hitting an average of 89 runs per game and has a strike rate of over 175 in T20 internationals. But there are praises for Rishabh Pant who returned to the international side after a fatal car accident in 2022.
Australia
Mitchell Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner and Adam Zampa.
Test legend Steve Smith didn’t make it to the 15 man squad. The highly rated youngster Jake Fraser McGurk who is known to give starts at the top order also failed to make the team.
West Indies
Rovman Powell (c), Alzarri Joseph (vc), Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd.
After receiving the Most Valuable Player Award at the 2024 edition of the Premier League, Sunil Narine retired in early 2024, not participating in the national team even after being requested by the board, selectors, and the captain.
New Zealand
Kane Williamson (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi and Tim Southee. Travelling Reserve: Ben Sears.
The Kiwi’s are set to feature in the tournament with a highly rated squad. The big names like Lockie Fergusson, Michael Bracwell are set to make a comeback to the national side after getting sidelined in the previous T20 World Cup due to injury.
South Africa

After yet another upset from last year’s ICC Cricket World Cup and known for choking in the multinational tournaments, South Africa are looking forward to dominate in the tournament with having one of strongest teams on paper.
Sri Lanka

Sacking their former white-ball skipper Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka looks forward to evolving the team under the leg spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga, who also withdrew from the 2024 edition of Indian Premier League after getting a contract worth $225,000.
Pakistan

With frequent changes to their support staff, the Pakistan Cricket Team is looking forward to making a statement in the tournament under a new World Cup winning coach, Gary Kirsten.
Several associate nations such as Ireland, Afghanistan, Nepal and Namibia include players who have featured in almost every franchise of cricket around the globe. Afghanistan has Rashid Khan – widely regarded as one of the best leg spinners – as well as underrated players like Mohammed Nabi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Noor Ahmed. Teams like USA, Papua New Guinea, Uganda are featuring for the first time in this multinational tournament.
