Let’s see what July has in store for us as we round up the best events of the month…
Kicking off aAh!’s listings for July is Festival Manchester 2022, the city’s largest free music festival dedicated to our community. We’ve also rounded up our favourite music festivals taking place across the UK, as well as theatre and literary highlights including the launch of Helen Mort’s new Forward Prize shortlisted collection The Illustrated Woman.
With a dedicated kids zone, a fun fair, extreme sports, live music and much, much more, the Manchester Festival is going to be a fun, family event free for everyone. Organised by hundreds of churches from across the North West, start the month of July by heading down to Wythenshawe Park and getting to know your local community.
London’s urban festival is leaving the nest and coming to Birmingham! Wireless started as a primarily rock and pop festival, Wireless Festival has slowly started to focus on rap, hip-hop and R&B music headlining the likes of Jay-Z, Kayne West, Rihanna, and our very own Stormzy. After changing to a later date and moving locations last year, Wireless 2022 is more than making up for it bringing you seven headliners split between three locations!
If you feel like flying the nest, Scotland’s TRNSMT festival is the one for you! Mixing pop, rock and electronica, TRNSMT has it all. Named ‘Best New Festival’ in 2017 at the UK Festival Awards, this new player in the circuit has had some truly legendary line-ups from Radiohead, Liam Gallagher, Arctic Monkeys and even Queen + Adam Lambert.
To mark the launch of Helen Mort’s new Forward Prize shortlisted collection The Illustrated Woman, we warmly invite you to a free day of discussions, workshops and performances exploring tattoos as art. The programme is presented by the Manchester Writing School and Manchester Poetry Library at Manchester Metropolitan University.
DAWN will be a work in progress sharing from recent graduate from MA Contemporary Performance Seren Marimba. The piece will mark the culmination of a two week experimental practice in which Seren will create content everyday at dawn. The piece will take form from what is created at these daybreak intervals and will explore themes of time, duality and mysticism. This work-in-progress performance will be followed by a Q&A with the artist exploring the process hosted by a member of the Performance Research Group.
Located in the picturesque Peak District, Y Not Festival boasts a large range of music genres for everyone to enjoy! Whether you like indie rock, folk music or hip-hop, Y Not is the festival for you. Previous headliners include Snoop Dogg, Two Door Cinema Club, Foals, Jax Jones and even Mr Motivator.
Manchester’s very own Reggae Festival returns for a multi-room event at the Manchester Academy. Hopefully bringing some of that gorgeous Jamaican sunshine, immerse yourself in some classic Kingston tunes with an impressive line-up sure to get your body moving.
One of the biggest conventions in the world is coming to the BEC Arena in Manchester, for a weekend of pop culture appreciation. A place where nerds, cosplayers, film-lovers, readers, and fans can geek out. Set to have special guests and panels, shops and traders, and displays, Comic-Con Manchester will be fun for all.
