The Therme Manchester Marathon is standing in solidarity with Ukraine by selling special edition bibs to raise funds for humanitarian aid.

Each donation buys an extra bib depicting the country’s blue and yellow flag, which runners can attach to the back of their shirt during the highly-anticipated annual event.

The initiative aims to help those displaced by the conflict following the Russian invasion earlier this month, in a fundraising effort to provide food, water and healthcare resources.

Donations from £10 ensure the bib is received directly before the event, with all public entrants accepted first-come-first-served.

A postage fee of £1 guarantees that 100% of donations go towards funds raised by the Disaster Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal, which will also be matched by the UK government to the sum of £20 million.

An entrant from Kyiv, Ukraine, who was set to partake in the sporting event this Spring, has been issued a refund and invited as an honoured guest to next year’s race.

Taking place on Sunday 3rd April 2022, the Therme Manchester Marathon stretches 26.2 miles across the North West in an accessible and enjoyable route, suitable to runners of all abilities.

The Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) is an organisation that fundraises rapidly in response to major crises in countries that aren’t able to react.

This is done through the union of 15 different UK aid charities such as the British Red Cross and Save the Children.

The Manchester Marathon will take place on Sunday 3rd April, 2022. More information can be found on the Manchester Marathon website.
