Moving into the second month of these unprecedented times in 2021, here are some events happening across Manchester to keep you busy! Some of these events may not be literary in nature, but they still have the ability to jump-start your creativity, mindfulness, and puzzle-solving skills, all of which are beneficial to writers and readers alike. Here are our top picks for a fun packed February.

Mindfulness Sessions

Join the weekly virtual mindfulness session for students at MMU run by our Counselling, Mental Health, and Wellbeing team. In these troubled times, it is good to take a breather and focus on ourselves. 


Online Talks: Cranford’s Illustrators

3rd of February, 7:00-8:00pm | Tickets £ 4

Find out the stories behind the iconic Cranford Illustrations that popularised the novels of Elizabeth Gaskel’s novels with former Portico Library Librarian, Emma Marigliano. Tickets available at £4 for all ages 13+.


Word Central’s Open Mic Poetry and Spoken Word

 Join Word Central’s Open Mic Poetry and Spoken Word Hosted by Tony Curry with special guest poet Elizabeth McGeown. The event will be organised by Flapjack Press & Manchester Libraries with a live stream on Facebook. The event is free to attend.


LGBTQ History Month Netflix Parties

4th of February, 8:00-10:00pm| Free Online Entry

Celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month with our LGBT History Month Netflix Parties in partnership with the Union. Our first party will feature A Secret Love directed by Chris Bolan, a documentary depicting two women Pat Henschel and pro baseball player Terry Donahue who fell in love in 1947 and their 65-year journey of love and overcoming prejudice. Keep a look out for other Netflix Parties on their website.


Online Book Launch: Jill Hopper in Conversation with Cathy Rentzenbrink
