A wave of nostalgia hit Manchester on Sunday night as Indie royalty The Kooks played a second sold-out night at the city’s Academy. Supported by Liverpool band Clean Cut Kid, the Kooks reminded people why, after 11 years, they are still a relevant band.
Clean Cut Kid, comprising of husband and wife Mike and Evelyn Halls, Saul Godman and Ross Higginson, took to the stage at 8.00pm and came out to a huge cheer from the crowd. The best way to describe this support band’s sound is unique and the chemistry of Mike and Evelyn is what really brigs the band together. Sharing vocal duties and interacting with the crowd throughout, Clean Cut Kid are a band to watch this year when their eagerly anticipated first album is released.
The Kooks took to the stage at 9pm. Opening the set with Eddie’s Gun the Brighton band followed that with the fantastic You Don’t Love Me. Nostalgia was definitely the overall feeling of the gig as they played iconic songs such as Ooh La, She Moves In Her Own Way and of course Naive, which was teased and only brought out as the final song of the night.
Fan favourite Seaside was one of the most popular songs of the night as it showed that The Kooks have another side and know how to hold a crowd of that size. A mass singalong followed and reminded people why this band was so loved.
