The Leeds band will be performing at the Albert Square celebration this afternoon. It comes after Olly Murs was no longer able to perform at the celebration due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’.

Deputy Council leader Sue Murphy: “It’s fantastic news and all credit to The Kaiser Chiefs for stepping into the breach at such short notice. We’re sure they’ll put on a golden performance.”

More than 200,000 people are expected to line the route of the parade today to celebrate our Great Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic stars for their record-breaking performances at Rio 2016.

This year Team GB won 67 medals and the Paralympians took home an impressive 147 medals.

Prime Minister Theresa May has described the event as a “celebration fit for heroes”.

The procession will begin at the Museum of Science and Industry at 4:pm and will end in Albert Square.
