Members of the Manchester Metropolitan University Gamers Society have completed their 24 hour non-stop gaming marathon stream, raising £370 for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process.
The amount raised is continuing to increase even after the stream has ended with the final total now much higher than the original £370 raised after the event ran from 7pm Friday, through to 7pm Saturday.
The idea was inspired by Macmillan Cancer Supports Game Changers, which has been running throughout 2016 and helps gamers organise 24 hour gaming streams to raise money to help research and combat cancer.
The society split the 24 hours into 14 sections, each either focusing on one title such as Overwatch, Civilisation 5 and Mario Maker, or on a theme such as Crash Bandicoot titles and an ‘Indiegame Corner.’
The sections were often hosted by existing YouTubers from the Gamers Society including Cubix Fails and Mooncock Productions.
There were a number of challenges completed at each landmark in donations with fanfiction readings, physical challenges and ‘dabbing’ featuring throughout the event.
A number of prizes were also awarded at the end of the 24 hour session including gaming mouses, posters and Pop! Figures.
The society are currently in the process of creating a highlight reel of the event but, until then, you can view the whole event through the Twitch Play stream which you can find here.
