The heartbreaking news of Alan Rickman’s passing has spread across the world, as many express their respects for Rickman and his family. At the age of 69, the award-winning actor has sadly passed away after losing his battle with cancer.

Rickman has touched the hearts of many within his life particularly as he has had a long and successful career within acting. His first big break was in the theatre in the play Les Liaisons Dangereuses in the year 1985. However his career really took off as he delved into the Hollywood scene scoring many Villainous roles. Prime examples of this are the following: his role as Hans Gruber in Die Hard, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and last but definitely not least, his role as Severus Snape in the internationally famous, award-winning film series Harry Potter.

As a ‘Potterhead’ myself, this sad news has come as a horrible shock and I’m sure many people of our generation will agree, growing up with the films has developed an emotional attachment to the actors within it, particularly that of Alan Rickman. His role within the films could never be flawed, playing a troubled character who led a secret life as a hero disguising himself as a villain.

So now is a time to celebrate the life of Alan Rickman, a talented and loved man who has brought joy to many people and will be deeply missed.
