Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) has announced the appointment of Professor Helen Laville as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education. Helen is currently the Head of the School of English, Drama and America and Canadian Studies at the University of Birmingham and will begin her role at Manchester Met on 1st May.
Helen is renowned for her extensive research on post-war American History. She has also published work on women’s history and the cold war, exploring the relationship between American women’s voluntary organisations and the US government. Additionally, Helen has published work on civil rights and gender, focusing on the role of white women in the American South, as well as on international relations. In her current role at the University of Birmingham, Helen has actively transformed the student experience and student learning outcomes as well as having led the development of new methods in teaching, learning and assessment.
