Manchester illustrator Stanley Chow will return to the decks for a special guest vinyl DJ set at The Garden Bar in Chorlton later this month.

Chow, known for his distinctive geometric minimalist portraits of figures from Manchester and wider pop culture, is returning to his roots with an exclusive free DJ set at the venue – formerly known as Font – on Friday 27 February.

His set will be filled with an abundance of tunes reflecting his personal taste, including soul, funk, indie, hip hop, and dance, alongside a few unexpected gems.

Chow said: “I’ll be playing a mix of my favourite tracks, some old classics and a few surprises. DJing has always been a big part of my life, and it’s a joy to share that with a friendly crowd in such a creative space.”

While the Manchester-born artist was making a name for himself, he was also heavily involved in Manchester’s music scene in the 90s and early 2000s. He could often be seen playing in venues such as The Roadhouse, Dry Bar, Fab Cafe and Night & Day.

The Garden Bar, which recently relaunched under its new name, has been building a reputation as a social hub in Chorlton with a refreshed events programme.

Jess Anderson, manager of The Garden Bar, said the team were pleased to welcome Chow as a guest DJ: “As one of our regulars we’re thrilled that Stan will be bringing some of his record collection for us all to hear.”

She continued: “His DJ night comes straight off the back of brilliant guest slots with Jeff Hordley [aka Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle], and James Cartwright [aka Coronation Street’s Theo Silverton] and we’re expecting more of the same with Stan as guest DJ. We can’t wait to see the energy he brings.”

Alongside returning to Manchester’s music scene, Chow is also curating the BRITs Art Trail. The project will bring together more than 20 local artists to transform parts of the Northern Quarter and Ancoats into an open-air gallery as part of celebrations surrounding the BRIT Awards and the BRITs Fringe.
