Saved Us

Recruiting men to serve in the war

These men who have made us proud

To call Britain our country

All fighting to gain peace


Men of all ages not scared to fight

All have hopeful pieces of mind

Comes to a point, you’ve

Done your country right


Fighting all your life

Still the job isn’t done

So many have died for us

Died not for glory, but for peace


But still we don’t have it

So many terrible deaths

Causing grief and heartache

Pain that will stay with you


All have faced this world, head up straight

Poppies lay on your grave

To say our thankyous for what you did

For you have saved us from a war


Die Trying

They had gone to war

And fought for this country

Rarely got any new recruits

Fighting for what they know is right

And they’ve seen so many terrible things


A gun in their head, a wounded man

So many things they had seen

Never seen so many die right in front of me

Never stopped them from thinking of peace

Does not make it any harder to say goodbye


To those who have lost their lives

To those who fought and died

Pushed every fear they had away

It was either fight to survive or die trying


All faced it head on

All fought for their country

Even if it meant to die trying

Know you have done your country proud

Even if it meant ending with a poppy on your grave
