News surfaced on Friday that the national Olympic ‘Welcome Home’ parade will be held in Manchester’s city centre.

Prime Minister Theresa May announced that the parade will take place in October, with thousands of people anticipated to line the streets.

With 23 medals already having come from the Manchester area, the parade will see the likes of cycling couple Jason Kenny and Laura Trott, and hockey stars Nicola White and Kate Richardson-Walsh celebrating their wins. The route for the parade has yet to be established but the PM has stated that it’s a chance to pay tribute to Team GB’s Olympians and Paralympians.

Bosses at Manchester City Council say they are delighted that Manchester has been selected to host such an event.

You can find more details about Manchester’s Olympians and the parade at Manchester Evening News.
