Members of the Manchester Met Pole Society recently visited the United Kingdom Professional Pole Championships (UKPPC). The event was an opportunity for the group to watch the dancers compete as well as to study their abilities and maybe even learn a few new moves.

The competition’s competitors were split into three categories from Instructor (teaches but doesn’t perform professionally) to Professional and Elite (open to dancers who have won, or been a runner up in, a professional pole competition ‘of note’). Each piece was brilliant to watch with no major slip-ups from the dancers making it even better.  The atmosphere was fully supportive, with many friends and family cheering the competitors on. Many of the dancers then mingled in the crowd after their performance, making everyone feel like they were a part of the pole-dancing family.

The competitors’ eye-catching outfits were also worth acknowledging with some even being sold in the stalls outside.
The event had about 10 –15 stalls selling a variety of pole dancing gear, giving many of the visitors and competitors a chance to buy some new outfits and merchandise which were then worn during the competition. However, the shops were limited and quite expensive if you wanted to buy a full set of gear. Many of the Manchester Met group members believed that the event should have been bigger considering it was the UK finals and it also seemed to lack the support of companies outside of the pole dancing community.

The playground was fun and got everyone involved and active during the breaks and was also a great photo opportunity.

The finals ended with special performances from 2011 UKPPC winner Bendy Kate  and judge Dimitry Polotov, who carries the title of Mr.PoleDanceRussia 2013,  among many others. Both performed exceptional pieces with Dimitry combining pole, breakdance and parkour to make his piece even more mind-blowing.

The event on a whole was a great day out for the group and was an amazing opportunity to watch these incredible dancers perform. Maybe one day pole fans will be going to watch some of our own Manchester Met pole dancers compete.
