Manchester Metropolitan University’s Humanities, Languages and Social Science Faculty welcomes all postgraduate students to the HLSS Graduate School End of Year Celebration on Thursday 25th June. The evening, hosted by the HLSS Faculty alongside the Manchester Writing School, is a unique opportunity for all humanities postgraduates to come together and celebrate the end of the academic year.

The free event will take place on the roof terrace of the Manchester School of Art in Benzie Building, Cavendish Street from 6pm until 8pm and is the first of what the HLSS Graduate School hope to be a termly occurrence. Speaking to Humanity Hallows, Postgraduate Student Experience Tutor and co-organiser of the celebration, Kate Johnson, said, ‘The Roof Terrace Celebration will be a wonderful occasion at which to acknowledge and salute the achievements of both the staff and the students who make up our exhilarating postgraduate community. The lively contributions from this diverse community – full time, part time and online as well as home and international students from across the globe – are what makes our faculty life so appealing, stimulating and fulfilling for all.”

As well as being an opportunity for postgraduates to celebrate their achievements throughout the year, the evening will also host the launch of two new books. Authors and popular Manchester Writing School lecturers, Livi Michael and Catherine Fox, both launching new releases, will be reading extracts from their work on the night.

This event is a fantastic opportunity for postgraduates from various courses within the faculty to get to know each other and, as the date of the celebration coincides with the Manchester Writing School’s ‘Creative Writing Summer School’, for online students to meet each other as well as their on-campus peers. James Draper, Manager of the Manchester Writing School, said, ‘The fact that so many online students will be present gives us a unique chance to capture our cohort at its fullest and most diverse.” HLSS international and online students are particularly welcome and all attendees will be treated to drinks and nibbles. There will also be musicians on hand to provide entertainment.
