Ballet Season Has Commenced; exploring how creativity speaks to us all and how it can bring us together, as one.

I immerse myself into the movement-

      long, long

short , short

               and flow,

breathe.

In,

Out,

Around

      And through.

I immerse myself into the movement.

Slowly,

  slowly,

    slowly-

and release.

Breathe, flow, release, move through.

A beautiful sequence.

      A piece of artwork.

So effortless in movement,

I am mesmerised by the flow.

I catch myself

comparing!

Finding fault in my own abilities.

To move in such elegant and soft ways.

      But

I must not.

I understand that as passion flows through them,

And as they breathe in,

      and out.

Effortlessly moving in time-

      that suddenly,

I am infected with the magic and power that their movements hold.

      And we are one.

So,

I left comparison behind,

Like a feeble feather captured by the wind.

And I am free.

      Immersed once more.

Immersed by the passion,

   immersed by the power,

      immersed by the arts.

I lift my stiff gaze,

and look around.

A community,

      22 countries

   all at one.

united –

by the arts.

Lowri Simmons is a third year, English with Multimedia Journalism student. This piece of poetry is inspired by her visit to watch a live stream of The Royal Opera House ballet performance of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. Lowri explores the immersive experience she had whilst watching this form of art, and was intrigued by the community which creativity can bring together.
