Kendal Calling (the revered ‘Glastonbury of the North’) returns this August with an eclectic slate of artists, ranging from hip-hop legends to some of the most exciting new names in indie music.
The Cumbrian music festival which takes place 1-4 August at the stunning Lowther Deer Park in the Lake District has officially sold out this weekend for the 19th consecutive year.
Thursday night campers will be treated to an early festival highlight when Paul Heaton takes to the main stage to perform music by The Housemartins and The Beautiful South. In the absence of his long term partner Jacqui Abbott, Paul will be joined by Rianne Downey. Gen-Z icon Declan McKenna will also make a much anticipated appearance; revellers should expect glam rock of the highest calibre.
Friday will attract attendees in the thousands and a host of megastars to boot. Noel Gallagher is the headliner with his band The High Flying Birds. Touted indie prodigies The K’s are set to play the Calling Out Stage alongside up and comers Bilk and Cucamaras. Stalwarts like The Pigeon Detectives will also perform, as well as returning festival favourite, Keane.
Saturday sees a smattering of post-punk acts converge across the fields. Home Counties and House of Lazarus are expected to bring a bizarre but exciting energy to the Woodlands Stage. The Lightning Seeds will take to the Parklands Stage, and on Saturday night there’s sure to be a party riled up by comedian Russell Howard. Hip-hop heroes The Streets always pack a punch, and they’ll close the main stage with a barrage of thumping anthems.
As the festival reaches its grand finale on Sunday, the lineup careens from the sublime to the ridiculous. Australian rookies Royel Otis have garnered a main stage slot alongside Pale Waves and Feeder, before headliner Paolo Nutini marks the curtain call. Fear not, night owls; there’ll be DJs partying until the sun comes up on Monday morning. Joining Craig Charles and Tim Burgess for an epic all-nighter is former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville – a back-to-back on the decks like no other.
Cult heroes, hot rod youngsters and ex-footballers, there can be no other festival like the 2024 edition of Kendal Calling.
Kendal Calling will take place from 1-4 August 2024. Follow @kendalcalling for the latest news and updates from the festival.
