Have you been planning to learn a new language since before the pandemic, but Duolingo is not quite cutting it? Whether it’s learning Spanish or trying a yoga class, Man Met Rise has an activity for you. This month, you can find everything from film screenings, to language taster sessions, to creative writing workshops.


Small Space Gardening Design Challenge with the Cloud Gardener and RHS Urban Show

Be part of an exciting project team designing and building a balcony garden for the Royal Horticultural Society Urban Show. This project gives you the opportunity to get hands-on experience transforming urban small spaces supported by the Cloud Gardener.

Fancy learning Japanese? Learn the very basics of the Japanese language and explore the associated cultures in this taster session which promises to be lively and interactive.

Join the revolution!d Join the Bhangracise dance company in the traditional music and dance movement of Bhangra. The award-winning professional dance company celebrates the heritage of Bhangra, which can be traced back to the region of Punjab in North India. Today, Bhangra survives in different forms and styles across the globe and the Bhangracise dance company strives to maintain its traditionality while at the same time embracing its evolution as an art form.

Six Cups of Coffee II – Creative Writing Workshop

A collaborative international creative writing workshop open to students from Hong Kong University and Manchester Metropolitan University. This workshop is an opportunity to develop creative projects, share work, and build contacts. In the spirit of global perspectives bound together on intersections of passion, such as Paris in Six or New York, I love you, Rise are building a living anthology of international conversations, streaming from Manchester and Hong Kong, on the following theme: New Mergers? 21st century Creative Writing, Social Media, AI, and Art Tech.

Yoga sessions – Work your body, mind and soul

A mind and body experience originated in India, guided by experienced instructor and staff member Elizabeth Millican-Forster. Find inner peace through breath control, gentle stretches, and meditation. Enhance flexibility, strength, and overall wellbeing.

With daffodils in bloom, Six Nations rugby in full swing, and plenty of St David’s Day celebrations taking place, March is the perfect time of year to dive into all things Welsh! So why not join this Welsh language taster lesson? Learn some basic greetings and phrases, and gain an insight into this fascinating, ancient language.

Your Career Starts Here – Health and Education Jobs Fair

This jobs fair is for students looking for paid part-time, graduate roles or further study in and around the health, psychology, education and public sectors.  Plus, enjoy free pizza while you explore employer stands and participate in experiential learning sessions to enhance your practical skills.

Mapping your digital journey

Join Rise for an interactive session to map out your digital skills journey. This workshop provides an opportunity to identify goals for building your digital skills and literacy based on your career aspirations, and interests, develop some next steps to make progress toward your digital skills goals. You’ll also receive a digital journey starter pack. Whatever your skill level, this workshop will give you a chance to reflect on the role that digital plays in all aspects of your life as a student.
