International Women’s Day 2019 Celebrates #BalanceforBetter

International Women’s Day is a global movement that has been held on March 8th since 1975, when it was first recognised by the United Nations. The day, however, has roots going back far longer than 1975: it with the Socialist Party of America organising a Women’s Day in 1909, and women gaining suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, that March 8th became a national holiday.

The theme for this year’s IWD is ‘balance‘ and aims to provide “a unified direction to guide and galvanise continuous collective action, with #BalanceforBetter activity reinforced and amplified all year.”

Manchester Met’s Women in Media group will mark IWD 2019 with a fundraising quiz on Monday evening. Guests should expect questions on pop culture, music and all things women-related.

The quiz will be hosted in The Bar, Fallowfield, with entry costing either £4 on the door or a box of sanitary products. All proceeds will go to charity Every Month Manchester.
