Dear Creators,
What do you think of when you hear the word ‘body’? Does your mind jump to the material, human form, or do you picture the abstract body of work or maybe the collective body of water? Do you focus on the grotesque body or the animal body? Is the body a temple? Or is it a prison? Does your written body represent something metaphorical, or do you prefer to focus on the literal collective parts of a body: the muscles, the organs, the tissue?
The term ‘body’ can bring to mind physicality, abnormality, collectivity or individuality. It can spark ideas of exploitation or ideas of resistance, and it can function as a metaphor for both. The body is myriad, fractured, and whole, or all the things at once.
Do the bodies in your writing dance? Do they sing? Do they feel pain? What do they experience? How do they experience it?
For May, we invite you to submit writing that features bodies. Send us your work on the grotesque, the natural, the organic or the cyborg. Send us your animal bodies, your bodies of water, your creatures, and your hybrids. We want to read your representations of the body in whatever form they take.
We are accepting works of prose, poetry, flash fiction and art on the theme of ‘body’. All submissions should be a maximum of 1,500 words. To send us your submission, please email a word document or PDF to aAh.Editor@gmail.com with the subject line ‘Creative Submission’.
The closing date for submissions is 31st May.
