Review: The Libertines @ Warrington Parr Hall

Despite not being anywhere near the seaside, The Libertines brought their Tiddly Om Pop Pom tour to Warrington on Friday after a cancelled show in Blackpool left the band with a slot to fill.

Support came from Bright Young People and Trampoline, with the latter playing a storming set and setting the atmosphere up nicely for the band to greet their adoring fans.

Opening with ‘Time For Heroes The Libertines played for almost two hours, delivering classic after classic and throwing in a few songs of their latest album Anthems of Doomed Youth’ for good measure.

Just as in 2002, the fans hung on to every word that came of the London band’s mouths, singing along to every song. A healthy looking Pete Doherty was on top form and his bromance with Carl Barat, like the good ship Albion, appears fully back on course! Sharing microphones and joking between songs, fans were delighted to see that the relationship is back on track.

Fans were also treated to album favourites such as ‘The Saga’ and ‘Campaign of Hate’, which never usually get a live outing. Just as the crowd thought the band had clocked off for the evening, they returned to the stage to play an encore of ‘Handsome’, ‘Music When The Lights Go Out’ and ‘Don’t Look Back Into The Sun’.

As the crowd started to exit it became clear that the band hadn’t quite finished with them as Carl took the drums and Pete sung a fantastic cover of The Stone Roses ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, to their own adoring crowd.

No it is not 2002, it is 2017 and The Libertines are back to take their indie crown.
