Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) recently hosted the 2017 Rosamond Prize concert and prize-giving ceremony.
Now in its tenth year, the Rosamond Prize was founded by Manchester Writing School’s Professor of Poetry Michael Symmons Roberts and the RNCM’s Head of Composition Adam Gorb, who also act as judges.
The prize is an annual collaboration between students from both establishments who work together for a number of months to create a unique blend of words and music. The resulting pieces are then performed at the annual concert before the judges pick their winner. This year’s winners were creative writing student Aaron Lembo and musician Edgar Davies.
Speaking about being involved in the prize, Aaron told us, “It was a great experience working with Edgar Davies and hopefully we will work together in the future. The night was really fun with loads of great collaborations.”
In previous years, collaborations have led to a number of successful partnerships being formed and further pieces, including full-length musicals, being created.
