‘Hotter than Hell’ singer Dua Lipa is due to release her studio album Dua Lipa on the 2nd June, after the original release date has been set back in total three times. Lipa confirms via Twitter that wanting to include “New songs and exciting collaborations” is the reason the release date has been pushed back. Meanwhile, fans wait patiently, fingers crossed, hoping the set back will be worth it.

Seven amazing tracks from the album have already been released as singles – New Love, Last Dance, Hotter than Hell, Blow Your Mind, Thinking ‘Bout You, Room for 2 and Be the One. After signing to Warner Bros Records in 2015 aged just 20, Lipa released her debut single New Love. The single landed her a well deserved spot in the BBC Sound of 2016 long list.

The artist describes her music style as ‘dark pop’ although her tracks would go under the genre of indie pop, dream pop or R&B. With only a handful of precious spaces left on the album, fans are excited to see what other genres Lipa will include.

Out of the seven already released tracks stated above, already a fan favourite is Blow Your Mind, the catchy ‘mwah!’ chorus lyrics making the song one of the catchiest of the year. Lipa released the song to show she is comfortable in her own skin and proud of who she is.

With nearly all songs being original work, Lipa did admit Be the One is not an original piece. She stated she simply “couldn’t not take it, it’s my favourite thing.” Regardless, Be the One is the kind of song you belt out whilst driving along on a hot summers day.

Many compare the Londoner to label mate Lana Del Rey. Whilst similarities do occur, Lipa’s ‘dark pop’ style might create a divide in this assumption. ‘Dark pop’ has a massive opportunity to become the next ‘big thing’ with Lipa being the first to demonstrate.

The artist has proven so far that taking extra time and care with your work can go a long way. So far, each individual single is different from the next. Something you don’t often find. Fans might then assume that the delay of her studio album is also to continue her perfectionist work ethic.
