Following yesterday’s terror attack in Westminster, this morning it has been revealed that six addresses have been raided in various parts of the country overnight and seven arrests have been made, according to acting deputy commissioner at the Met Mark Rowley.
Yesterday a Hyundai 4×4 plied into pedestrians on the busy Westminster Bridge and an armed attacker, who was later shot dead by police, stabbed a police officer, who later died in hospital. The police officer has been named this morning as 48-year-old husband and father Keith Palmer.
After what has been called a “sick and depraved attack” by Prime Minister Teresa May, the whole of the country is today in mourning for the lives of the four victims who have been confirmed as dead, as well as the many injured. One of the victims who died on Westminster Bridge has been named as Aysha Frade who worked in a London sixth form college.
Police believe that the attacker “acted alone, and was inspired by international terrorism” and the attack is thought to be connected to Islamic terrorism. Rowley said he appreciated that the press will be having their own investigations but has called on them to not name the attacker until they complete their investigations. He went on to say that it is a “large and complex crime scene” and that he had no specific information about any further risk to the public but stated that more officers armed and unarmed were on the streets this morning as London comes to terms with the aftermath of yesterday’s events.
