Ex-Bolton Wanderers and England international footballer, Kevin Davies, has enrolled on the Sport Directorship course at Manchester Met.
Davies, 39, ultimately felt that pursuing an academic course was the correct decision for his career in sport:
“I probably could have played one more year but I feel I made the right decision to move on to other things and as well as the media gigs, I’ve enrolled on this course to learn more about what it takes to run a club. I’ve played football for 22 years and have other business interests but when I saw this opportunity I jumped at it after being recommended it by the PFA (Professional Footballer’s Association).”
Davies has praised the courses inclusion of practical experiences and discussed how his Manchester Met experience is proceeding so far:
“I’ve just passed the first module, learning the ins and outs of an elite sporting organisation, so it’s been very insightful. Furthermore, they get great guest speakers to come and we’re going to clubs too to learn how they run.”
The Sheffield-born former-striker is part of a group that enrolled on the course at Manchester Met last year which also included current Derby County boss, Steve McClaren and Gary Bowyer, League Two’s Blackpool F.C’s manager.
