The newly established Northern Network for the Study of the Crusades has announced an inaugural symposium to be held at Manchester Metropolitan University on February 10.
Organised by Lecturer in Medieval History at Manchester Met Dr Jason T. Roche, the inaugural symposium sponsored by the History Research Centre and the Royal Historical Society, will feature a wealth of up-and-coming academics from a range of UK universities.
Dr Roche created the collaborative and multi-institutional Northern Network in 2016 as part of an ambitious plan to give Manchester Met a leading role in northern England in the development of research and postgraduate study on the crusades and all related fields of enquiry.
The day will comprise two sessions on papers investigating the diversity of the crusades and crusading in Europe, the Mediterranean and the East. Following a keynote lecture by Dr Alan Murray, Institute of Medieval Studies, University of Leeds, the symposium will showcase the talents of Post Graduate Researchers from across the north of Britain in 15 minute papers dealing with a diverse range of subject matter.
The event will close with a Roundtable Q&A followed by a wine reception.
