GRIMMFEST is back for its fifth year!

Grimm Up North Ltd have announced the line-up for Grimmfest 2013, Manchester’s International Festival of Horror and Cult Cinema, which this year celebrates its fifth anniversary.

Grimmfest 2013 will launch on October 2ndwith a special preview night at the spectacular 1200-seater Art Deco Super Cinema, Stockport Plaza. This will feature a screening of the fully-restored 40th Anniversary rerelease of cult classic THE WICKER MAN and Q&A with the film’s director Robin Hardy, and, in celebration of the Bicentennial of a certain book of fairytales by the festival’s illustrious namesakes, the Brothers Grimm, the black-hearted stoner comedy HANSEL AND GRETEL GET BAKED. There will also be the regional premiere of the much anticipated return of the most malevolent of mannequins in THE CURSE OF CHUCKY which is accompanied by the world premiere of the short film RADIO SILENCE by Mat Johns, whose previous short, RUN, was something of an internet sensation.

Further festival highlights will include a make-up workshop and Q&A with SFX maestro Shaune Harrison, whose work was most recently showcased in WORLD WAR Z, a HELLRAISER event and screening with actor Nicholas Vince, the English premiere of surreal Southern Gothic shocker JUGFACE, the European premieres of the chilling coming of age story FOUND and tense psychological thriller ON AIR, and the return of iconic genre legend Barbara Steele in THE BUTTERFLY ROOM. There will be regional premieres for the visceral Israeli revenge thriller BIG BAD WOLVES, scatological zombie comedy STALLED, and British Science Fiction shocker THE MACHINE
The festival also boasts its very own “fringe”, which will feature some of the more left-field, challenging, independent films of the festival. These will include the UK premieres of HOUSE OF 100 EYES, a gruelling social satire about a suburban couple struggling to make a snuff movie, THANATOMORPHOSE, a harrowing study of mental and physical decay, and TO JENNIFER, a found-footage road movie into the heart of psychological darkness from James Cullen Bressack, whose previous, debut, feature was one of the most controversial talking points of last year’s festival. There’s also the icy home invasion thriller HOME SWEET HOME, the truly twisted MODUS ANOMOLI, and a brace of social media themed shockers, SMILEY and ANTISOCIAL, all making their regional premieres.
After the launch on October 2nd, Grimmfest 2013 will continue from October 3rd – 6th, at the Dancehouse theatre, and the Lass O’Gowrie, Manchester.
