The Manchester Writing School’s student magazine Avis will launch of issue 3 at a celebration event at Sandbar this Friday.
The summer/autumn collection of Avis contains a piece by the poet Philip Gross on the influence of GM Hopkins on his poetry, an interview with the short story writer Lara Williams, and is packed with inspiring prose, poetry, non-fiction, illustration and photography.
Avis magazine is entirely managed by students studying on the MA in Creative Writing course at Manchester Metropolitan University. Its aim is to give a platform to new and emerging writers and artists, as a way of supporting them and helping them gain confidence in their ambitions. As well as publishing local Manchester contributors, Avis receives submissions from across the world, this year becoming an international magazine.
Avis Poetry Editor Bridget Taylor said, “We hope Avis will continue to grow and flourish as it promotes the next generation of writers and artists. We are grateful for the support of the Make a Difference team at Manchester Met, which has made this possible. We’d like to invite everyone to come along and meet the editors and some of the local contributors, find out more about how to get involved, and purchase copies of the magazine.”
