But what is Oxjam?
“Oxjam began in 2006, with the aim of creating a network of music-loving people across the UK, all united by a shared goal – to raise money to fight poverty and suffering around the world. 10 years on we’re still going strong, with hundreds of incredible gigs taking place each October. Oxjam is a grassroots festival, with thousands of volunteers celebrating music in their local communities by organising their own gigs in support of Oxfam GB.”
Manchester Met student Helen Clarke told us how she got involved with Oxjam Music Festival,
“In order to raise money for Oxfam, I decided to be an Oxjam gig maker and organise my own gig. I arranged a venue, confirmed a date and time, hired security and a sound engineer, recruited a photographer and bands and set about promoting the event and now its here. This Friday, the work of myself and everyone who has helped us out, the people at Oxfam, those who are generously donating their time and resources to help out will hopefully be a success but we need you!
“We need you to come down, buy a ticket, drink, dance, enjoy and be part of an amazing opportunity to raise money for an amazing charity.”

How much? £4, available to book online
Who’s playing? Local Manchester bands including Novustory, STLP, Fear Me December and Arrowhead
For every £4 donated, Oxfam could pay for soap for two months to prevent the spread of diseases due to unhygienic conditions and for every £8, they can buy a goat for one family to provide milk.
