Manchester Writing School MA student Robert Gardham is pleased to announce that he is hosting an exhibition of his work at the Cafe in the Park in Altrincham. The exhibition is entitled City Lights and will be shown throughout October and November.
City Lights is an exhibition of exciting visual poetry which Robert compiled as part of a project that he recently completed for his MA. He said, “City Lights is the culmination of a project for my MA in Creative Writing. Seeing my work on the wall is really exciting and I hope that people enjoy it and the ideas and places behind it.
“Getting my work out into the public eye was not a requirement of submitting my project for the MA, but it has certainly given it another dimension and can only lend more authority to writing up my portfolio.”
Robert’s poetry focusses on the themes of place and travel. Assembling the pictures started with him experimenting with writing the Japanese poetry haikus and then shaping them into buildings and skylines which he drew out and redrafted until he was happy with them. Then he made prints and framed the images before setting up the exhibition in the café. Also on display is some of Robert’s art work, a series of bleach paintings, and he will be making a special personal appearance at the cafe on November 5th, when he will be creating some bonfire paintings in situ.
The Cafe in the Park is Lottery-funded and a proportion of money from any sales of Robert’s work will go back to the café and the nearby Family and Counselling Service centre.
