From a sequel to My Big Fat Greek Wedding back in March to the highly anticipated reboot of Ghostbusters, it seems 2016 has been the year for on-screen revivals. However, it doesn’t stop there – several more “reboots” have been scheduled for the coming months, including a much-anticipated visit to Kellerman’s holiday resort and the return of a favourite childhood franchise.
Twin Peaks
Twenty-six years since the pilot episode, cult-show Twin Peaks is returning to the small screen as a mini-series in 2017. Much of the plot is unknown, however co-creator Mark Frost has promised much of the original cast are returning for the new series, including Kyle MacLachlan (Agent Dale Cooper) and Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne), and some intriguing high-profile additions, Laura Dern, Amanda Seyfried and Ashley Judd.
Frost has also penned the companion book, The Secret History of Twin Peaks – due for release on Oct 20th – that explains what the characters have been up to since season two ended in 1991. If that isn’t enough excitement, Angelo Badalamenti’s haunting soundtrack has made it to vinyl, slated for release on November 4th.
Dirty Dancing
In 1987, we learnt to never put Baby in the corner. Now, almost thirty years later, Dirty Dancing is moving to the small-screen for a three-hour television musical. Yes, you read that correctly. ABC has promised a 180-minute adaption, fitted with an all-star cast including singer Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls, X Factor), Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), Debra Messing (Will & Grace) and 20-year-old Abigail Breslin (My Sister’s Keeper, Scream Queens) as Frances “Baby” Houseman. The remake has been scheduled for release in late 2016 with Eleanor Bergstein – writer of the original 1987 screenplay – acting as executive producer.
Power Rangers
With a feature film reimagining coming in March 2017, the timeless ‘90s franchise Power Rangers returns with a brand new cast, a killer set of suits and the promise of a ‘grittier’ storyline – though the outcast-teen-turn-hero formula is likely. Of course, archenemy Rita Repulsa is back, played by Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect), as is Zordon, the Rangers’ mentor, portrayed by Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad).

Scream
A modern-day reboot of the original slasher films is available on Netflix, with a new set of characters and an equally gory storyline.
Fuller House
Almost thirty years after the first series of Full House aired, the family sitcom returned to Netflix in 2016 with most of the original cast – minus the Olsen twins – for a brand new series.
Cold Feet
The much-anticipated sixth series aired in September of this year, thirteen years after the fifth season ended, and is set to return in 2017 for a seventh series.
X-Files
Set in real-time, the tenth season of the sci-fi drama takes place fourteen years after the ninth and reunites Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as Agents Scully and Mulder respectively.
