A surprising balance of relatable situations and unimaginable opportunities
By Sian Hamer
This isn’t a book dedicated to space adventures or NASA secrets. It also isn’t a chronological story of Buzz Aldrin’s life. Instead, No Dream Is Too High is an insight into the crazy and awe inspiring life Aldrin has led and continues to lead, a surprising balance of relatable situations and unimaginable opportunities.
The idea behind the book, as commented on the cover is, “Life lessons from a man who walked on the moon”, something executed well in every chapter. The chapters begin with new lessons, my personal favourite being, “the sky is not the limit… there are footprints on the moon!” Each lesson is complimented by stories of Aldrin’s adventures in life, many of them on Earth and not on the moon as one would presume. The book doesn’t intimidate the reader with unachievable possibilities, but instead inspires them and encourages them that the sky is not the limit.
Although brimming with incredible success stories, the book also offers an honest portrayal of the failures Aldrin has encountered in life. He doesn’t shy away from his missed opportunities or mistakes, instead he embraces them and describes how they have made him the person he is today.
This book is full of surprises. For someone, like me, who has looked up to Buzz Aldrin for as long as I’ve looked up to the stars with curiosity, this book revealed things about his life I could have never imagined. Space, NASA and the moon are all a large part of this book, so, if you’re interested in them, then this book will offer an exciting first hand perspective. However, if you’re just intrigued by the inspiring and larger than life character that is Buzz Aldrin, this book won’t overwhelm you with scientific jargon and ideas.
Read this book to be inspired, encouraged and enlightened by a man who has seen the world from a completely different perspective.
