Ambulance services arrived at Oxford Court halls on Wednesday 28th September after receiving an emergency call at 9:42pm, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. The 18-year-old male student, from West Yorkshire, died at the accommodation and was not taken to hospital, North West Ambulance Service confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police were called to the scene at Stretford Road, Hulme, though they are not currently treating the death as suspicious. A Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 10pm on Wednesday 28 September, police were called by the ambulance service to a property on Stretford Road, Hulme, to reports of a sudden death.

“Officers attended the address, where the body of an 18-year-old man was found. The matter is not suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

A Manchester Met representative added: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm the sudden death of a student in university halls on September 28th. Our thoughts are with family and friends at this difficult time. Student Support Officers are currently providing support and assistance to affected students.”

While the death isn’t being treated as suspicious, Manchester Met has a Counselling, Health and Wellbeing Service (CHWS) for any issues and concerns that students may have. The CHWS is located at Room 1.13 in the Business School and open-door service runs from 1:00pm and 2:00pm every day during term time. More information can be found on the university website or contact CHWS at 0161 247 3493.
