Manchester Writing School have recently announced that they are welcoming three new writers to their team at Number 70 Oxford Street. Rachel Genn, Andrew Michael Hurley and Monique Roffey will all join the school this academic year, teaching on the MA and MFA in Creative Writing.
Rachel Genn has worked as an Associate Lecturer with the Writing School since 2011, previously teaching on the distance learning route of the Creative Writing MA. As well as being a Doctor of Neuroscience, she has also completed an MA in Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University. She started writing fiction seriously in 2005 and her novel The Cure was published in 2011.
Speaking about her new role in the Writing School, Rachel said, “After teaching at Manchester Met online, I am really pleased to be joining the burgeoning team of new and established writers at the Manchester Writing School. It is the most vibrant and exciting group of staff and students around, and the Manchester Met writing programmes reflect the vision and originality of the group.”
Andrew Michael Hurley is himself a graduate of the Manchester Writing School MA. His debut novel The Loney was first published in 2014, going on to win the Costa First Novel Award and receive glowing reviews, including one from renowned horror writer Stephen King. Andrew told Humanity Hallows, “I’m absolutely delighted to be teaching at the Writing School. As a graduate of the MA programme, I know how valuable all the workshops sessions and pieces of feedback from professional writers were in developing my own creative practice and I’m really looking forward to helping others to be successful.”
Monique Roffey was born in Trinidad and holds both an MA and PhD in Creative Writing from Lancaster University. She has previously taught for Arvon, Skyros and on the MA in Creative and Life Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her published works include The White Woman on the Green Bicycle, With The Kisses Of His Mouth and Archipelago.
Monique told us how pleased she is to be joining the Writing School team: “I’m delighted to be joining Manchester Met’s famous writing school. I look forward to working on the MA in Novel Writing in particular. I can’t wait to start the new term and to start working, long term, with a group of such talented students.”
