It is twenty years this week since the Spice Girls’ ‘Wannabee’ topped the charts and, in a recent video, three members of the band have announced that a “party” is on the way. Many suspect that this announcement could be a reunion between the three, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Melanie Brown, as well as the possible announcement of a gig.
The Spice Girls formed in 1994 and were active up until 2000. Their debut album Spice sold more than 31 million copies worldwide,becoming the best-selling album by any female group in history. Their follow up album Spiceworld sold over 20 million copies and, to date, the group has sold more than 80 million records.
The video, which is entitled GEM, could see the trio forming a new band of their own as they venture forward. Indeed, there have been rumours that the girls have been working on some new music recently.
The Spice Girls were a major influence on many young people during their formative years, with many music fans believing that, without this iconic girl band, many of our current generation of music stars, such as Adele and Birdy, wouldn’t exist.
