By Jack Holmes

The Gamers society have been hosting one off screenings of “nerdy” movies since the start of the year, but today marks their first full day event. From midday the society will be hosting an eight hour “Mega Movie Day” in the rooms six and seven of the Manchester Met Union.

The film times are all below with brief synopsis and we’ll be uploading full movie reviews after each of the screenings. Speaking about the guidelines Social Secretary Aaron Brady reminded that “we won’t follow these times to the tee, this is more of a guideline”. But if you’re feeling watching one, two or all of the days movies and getting to know the Gamers society a little, head over to the Union.

12:10 – Con Air

What film day would be complete without a classic Nicholas Cage movie. Best worst actor or worst best actor? You can make your own mind up today in this 1997 action thriller follows an army ranger trapped on a prisoner transport plane when the passengers take control.

14:30 – Pokémon 2000

The Gamers held a vote to decide on which of the dozens of Pokémon movies would be screened today and Pokémon 2000 beat the original by just a single vote. The 1999 animated movie is pretty much what you’d expect from a classic Pokémon movie. There’s Ash, an ancient god of the sea and an all knowing pink sloth like creature. What more can you ask for in a movie?

16:30 – Scott Pilgrim

The 2010 cult classic directed by Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz’s Edgar Wright. Perfectly mixing Wrights signature style with shots and images taken directly from the source comic books pages, Scott Pilgrim is a must see for any movie fan that wants comedy, action and just a hint of romance.

18:40 – Kung Fury

It’s difficult to describe this crowd funded 2015 Swedish martial arts comedy. Raising over $630,000 the movie features cameos from David Hasselhoff and Jorma Taccone, one of the members of the Lonely Island group. With Hitler, Triceracop and Hackerman also making up the cast, it’s a movie that really needs to be seen to be believed.

Gamers will be live tweeting the movies on the hashtag #MMUGGMovies, so even if you can’t make it down you could always watch from home and be with us in spirit.

The group will also be leading their usual trip to karaoke at Footage after the final screening, so if you’re feeling more inclined to sing than sit, you can always join them there.
