Every year the students of Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) elect six officers to work for the Students’ Union to represent the views of the all of the university’s 37,000 students. The positions include: President, Vice-president, Activities Manchester, Activities Cheshire and Education and Community Officers.
This year 29 candidates fought for the six positions and the election night was full of surprises. Matt Robinson, Chief Executive of the Union, who presented the night, said, “The Union exists to represent all the students at Manchester Met and ensure their needs and views are at the heart of everything the Union does.”
Co-presenter Jordan Stephen said, “It has been an amazing elections campaign. I can now confirm there has been a total of 4,445 votes, the highest ever number we have had at Manchester Met.”
All 29 candidates, working both alone and in teams, worked extremely hard to gain the votes of students. Two current officers went head to head to gain the role of President and this title was taken by Activities Cheshire Officer Lewis Bartlett of the Now’s The Time team. The rest of the Now’s The Time team went on to join him, creating a full officer team.
The full list of this year’s elected Student Officers are:
Lewis Bartlett (Now’s The Time) – President
Kwame Amoah Mensah (Now’s The Time) – Vice President Cheshire
Hussain El-Amin (Now’s The Time) – Community Officer
Luca Raimo (Now’s The Time) – Education Officer
Sophie Binder (Now’s The Time) – Activities Manchester
Natasha Jaworski (Now’s The Time) – Activities Cheshire
