MMU defeated University of Sheffield (UoS) 62-12 in a game which saw MMU dominate and keep UoS camped back in their own 22.
After a slow start from MMU, they were eventually able to put their foot on the accelerator and didn’t let go.
The game finished with a 50-point gap between the teams, and this shows how hungry and ready to impress this MMU team is with a National Trophy final next week.
Other teams may have been solely focused on the final, but it was evident to see that MMU were focused on the here and now and see that as the best way to prepare for the final.
After the game MMU’s Joshua Lugsden said: “A bit emotional after being here for four years, got the win and it was brilliant and that’s what we came out to do.
“We felt a little bit flat at the start and it took us a while to get into the game, but it was all about building to next week and the cup final as we’ve secured second place in the league, so all the focus goes onto that now and nothing less than a win will do for us.”
MMU’s Theo Fairn added: “After 20 minutes we fixed our game, chucks were right, lifts were right, and we were able to get some momentum.
“This game just builds momentum into next week and the more momentum we have the better we are going to be able to perform in Loughborough.”
Both players are excited about the prospect of bringing silverware back to Platt Lane, if they did this it would cap off a good year for MMU with them also finishing second in the league and would be a great platform for them next year to build upon.
MMU will now make the journey south to Loughborough to face Exeter in the National Trophy final on Wednesday 20th March.
