Man Met Rise: April Round Up – Spring is the perfect time to relax and brush up on a new skill

Somehow Easter is becoming a distant memory and we’re over halfway through the second semester. It’s the season of rejuvenation, time for a well deserved rest and possibly a dose of last minute cramming for assignment deadlines. The trees on Alexander Park are blossoming (amidst the building work), and this is the perfect time to take a break and brush up on an old skill – or learn something completely new.

Man Met Rise are here to help, offering a range of workshops and activities throughout April, from 3D printing, to social media marketing courses, to translation tools, and even some outdoor sessions! It won’t hurt your CV either…


Orchard workshop with Hulme Community Garden Centre

The spring orchard workshop aims to help you take care take of the lovely fruit trees on campus. Led by Rise’s local partner Hulme Community Garden Centre, you will be volunteering alongside other students and staff to learn all about fruit tree care and maintenance.

Get Certified: Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign in a Day

This is a fully-funded opportunity to train and receive an external certification from Adobe. In this day-long session, you will undergo training to show competency in Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator.

Social media marketing masterclass with the Blair Project

Get to grips with the key principles of marketing, take a whistle-stop tour of branding, search engine optimisation, and campaign planning and strategy and discover how to create content that will stand out from the crowd! This workshop will take you through the basics of creating your own branding and growing your online profile.

Get Certified: Learn Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint or Word in a Day

This is a fully-funded opportunity to train and receive an external certification from Microsoft – in only one day. In this day-long session, you will undergo the necessary training to evidence competency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint or Word.

Carbon Literacy Training for Staff and Students (Webinar Series)

Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Climate Crisis – how it works and how we can combat it in our personal and professional lives. This course will give you a comprehensive overview of climate change: the basic science behind it, its drivers and impacts, as well as an understanding of the actions required by individuals, communities, and organisations to avoid the worst impacts and set us on a path to a sustainable future.

Student Video Competition with Manchester Central

Manchester Central are inviting Manchester-based university students to be involved in a creative video content competition, with the chance to win one of three cash prizes up to £500, as well as having your creative outputs being used across Manchester Central’s social media channels.

Getting the most out of LinkedIn Learning

This session will explore how you can use Linkedin Learning platform to develop skills for your studies and career, and promote your professional brand. It will show you the basics, and demonstrate ways you can personalise your LinkedIn Learning experience, such as by setting goals and taking part in challenges.

3D Printing Course with Wainman Design 

Learn the essentials of 3D design and printing and gain hands-on experience from Jamie-Lee Wainman of Wainman Design! This six-week course hosted by Jamie-Lee of Wainman Design covers the essentials of 3D design and printing. You will gain hands-on experience working in their design studios in Islington Mill with access to a suite of design and printing tools.

Let’s Work Out How to Find Resources

Discover how to find the resources you need for your studies in this collaborative workshop led by our Digital Guides. Explore effective search strategies and library databases. Share tips with fellow students to make your research process more efficient. In this hands-on workshop, our Digital Guides will lead a collaborative learning experience focused on finding resources for your academic work.

Woodland workshop with Hulme Community Garden Centre

A woodland session to help maintain and enhance the natural space on campus. Led by Hulme Community Garden Centre, you will be volunteering alongside other students and staff to learn all about woodland maintenance and wildlife.

Let’s Work Out How to Use Translation Tools

In this interactive workshop, Rise’s Digital Guides will facilitate a group learning experience where you will work together to explore the world of translation tools. The session is for those interested in using these tools for studies or projects.
