Manchester Met’s History Society: The year so far
The MMU History Society celebrates a fantastic term of charity and social events.

The History Society’s latest charity event was a Christmas bake sale. For this, the society teamed up with HLSS International Society to support Key103’s Cash for Kids Mission Christmas and raised an amazing £425!
Society members greeted MMU students and staff, as they set up camp in the Geoffrey Manton Atrium, with a heavenly display of homemade cupcakes, biscuits and one very big cookie, ready for a day of cake-fuelled, Christmas charity fund-raising. Society members baked, bought and bartered an array of delicious treats to help raise vital funds, in order to give children a Christmas to remember.
Millie’s Cookies, in the Trafford Centre, kindly donated one of their famous giant cookies to the Bake Sale. It was beautifully iced with the History Soc’s blue and pink colours and was raffled off. One of the tutors, Kathryn Hurlock, was named as the winner.
The Cash for Kids Bake Sale followed the Teenage Cancer Trust Cake Sale and the Movember Charity Social. Overall, these three events have helped the MMU History Society raise over £1000 for charity, between September and the end of the Christmas term!
The History Society have proved to be overwhelmingly successful this year. Not only have they set and exceeded impressive fundraising targets, but they have also hosted a series of popular socials – the Halloween Social, the Pub Quiz and the Movember Social – to name a few!
For the end-of-term social, the society teamed up with the history tutors for a Christmas Get-Together, with free food and drinks. They took over the Union’s Medlock Bar for the evening, decorated it with History Soc Christmas bunting and put on a curry buffet and free bar. The event had a lively Christmas atmosphere and was the perfect end to a brilliant term.
MMU History Society will be back after the Christmas holidays with a Refreshers Social to welcome back existing members, and encourage new faces to join in on the History Soc’s fun and games.
